Metalmorphosis Studio in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Metalmorphosis Studio opened in September 2006.  The studio is a clean, bright, and ample  workspace with state of the art equipment with regards to safety and environmental concerns.  It is the ideal place for the serious metalsmithing student (beginner – advanced) to pursue their craft.

Master Workshops are often held in the studio.  Master Silversmith, John Cogswell, author of Creative Stone Setting,  taught annual workshops for Florida Society Of Goldsmith’s South East Chapter from  2007-2010.  Metalmorphosis Studio is his favorite.  In 2008, Master Silversmith, Cynthia Eid, taught hydraulic press techniques  and will return in 2012. Pauline Warg, who wrote Making Metal Beads, taught in 2009 and 2011. Also in 2011, Barbara Becker Simon, author of Metal Clay Beads, taught Metal Clay Textures and  Susan Lewis taught an Enameling workshop

Since it’s opening, the Metalmorphosis Studio Artists have had three exhibitions in the studio and are being recognized in regional and statewide exhibitions as well.

Charlene Klanfer recently exhibited her work in the International Exhibition at the 2010 PMC Conference and is included in the Guild Annual No. 4. Bonnie Lallky-Siebert is currently represented by Florida Craftsmen Gallery.

On Sunday November 19, 2006, the Metalmorphosis Studio Artists successfully held their first sale of jewelry and other artwork.  The sale took place at the studio, located in Ft. Lauderdale, where buyers could see the tools, equipment and environment where the artists create their work.

Many buyers remarked about the diversity of the work shown because each artist has a distinctive artistic direction, which ranges from classical form and technique to edgy, experimental work...cloisonné enamels and fine metals to found objects and collage.

The participating artists included Theresa Beiger, Cathryn Conn, Martine Hackleman, Patti Hughes, Charlene Klanfer, Bonnie Lallky-Seibert, Susan Lewis, Donna Morse and Ethel Schwartz.
The Metalmorphosis Studio is owned by Susan Lewis and her husband, Terje Persen.  It was built specifically to have an environmentally friendly space for Susan to pursue her own creative work and hold jewelry fabrication workshops.

Susan Lewis is happy to announce that her new studio, the Metalmorphosis Studio, opened in Ft. Lauderdale on September 10, 2006.  With about 50 friends, students and former students in attendance, they celebrated the finish of this year+ long project.  There was also a small exhibition of Susan’s work and that of her students in her mini-gallery.  Rave reviews followed.

The studio was designed and built by Susan and her husband, Terry, specifically to have an environmentally friendly space for Susan to pursue her own creative work.  She also has included space to continue teaching and plans hold classes for her existing students. Soon she will schedule a series of workshops for PMC and jewelry fabrication that will be open to new students.
Susan taught jewelry, enameling and PMC classes at Boca Raton Museum of Art School for 15+ years and, in 2001, she designed their jewelry studio and developed their jewelry program.  This past June, she made the decision to leave her position to devote more time to projects for which she has not had time.  Susan will also be teaching for the seventh year for the Beadwork BeadExpo to be held in Oakland, CA in April of 2007.
